Today my wife and I took advantage of the beautiful weather and did some Plein Aire painting. I painted one of our most well known landmarks Lower Table Rock. Although the sun was higher in the sky than I usually like, the shadows and colors of the plateau still made for an interesting painting.
Working on my painting.
My wife Jessica painting away.
My current interest is mastering landscape painting. I believe that not improving leads to a gradual decline. So I built a little landscape to study mountain shadows. I added in mountain shadows just for fun.
Ive been working on this one for the last two days. It is a portrait of my African Statue, which I have painted a lighter tone in order to make it a little more lifelike. As a sidebar I wanted to mention that this is painted in a Zorn Palette composed of Ivory Black, Yellow Ocre, Cafmium Red, and Titanium White.
Yesterday I got the chance to get out and do a little Plein Aire painting. It is one of the funest most challenging things I get to do. As the weather gets nicer I plan to be doing a lot more of this.
I have decided to branch out and start painting some portraits and landscapes again. Here is a small study of Ayers Rock.
