I set up this still life last night with some fruit and two lights one white and one red. I enjoy the challenge of painting familiar subjects in unusual light. It is a great exercise for artists of any skill level.
Here is another Plein Air (outdoor) painting from my trip to the Oregon coast last weekend. It is so fun to bring my kids to the same beach I visited as a child every summer.
I finished my big commission and got an opportunity to take a trip to Harriss Beach on the Oregon Coast.
Due to a large portrait comission I haven't had the time to complete any smaller paintings lately. So in order to prevent boredom I'll be posting progress shots of the painting. This is where it's at so far.
I set up this little still life this afternoon in my studio under natural light. I often use artificial lighting but there is something undeniably special about north light. I'm experimenting with a new color palette in this one Hansa Yellow, Transparent Orange, Napthol Red, Quinacridone Red, Cobalt Blue, Anthraquinone Blue, Ivory Black, and Titanium White.
After watching the second Gaurdians of the Galaxy movie I decided I just had to paint Yondu a.k.a. Mary Poppins.
Today was my daughters 8th birthday party. It was a huge crazy fun affair. My wife made a beautiful cake and 30 kids showed up. While we were getting ready I snagged a goody bag and painted it. This painting is 7" x 11".
